The devil is not an opposite equal with God
Ezekiel28
12 "Son of man, take up a lamentation for the
king of Tyre, and say to him, 'Thus says the Lord GOD: " You were the seal
of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.
13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious
stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and
jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your
timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created.
14 " You were the anointed cherub who covers; I
established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and
forth in the midst of fiery stones.
15 You were perfect in your ways from the day you were
created, Till iniquity was found in you.
One of the worst
doctrines in the church today is the idea that God and satan are in a constant
battle. In some places the idea even goes further to present the devil as
winning right now but at some point in the future God will eventually win. Of
course all of this is utter nonsense. The devil was defeated once and for all
time when Jesus rose from the dead and ascended into glory.
The devil has never been
omnipotent. He was a created cherub called Lucifer. And his job was to cover.
Ezekiel28:14 calls him “the anointed cherub that covereth”
He was a created being.
There is no way a created being could have the same power or ability as it’s
creator. The idea that Lucifer who later became satan has this incredible power
and ability and is a rival creator to God is just not true. satan has no powers
or authority. He never had any to start with.
He was created as a servant of
God and man.
This false doctrine has
created this concept of dualism. In other words, the idea that God and satan
are two almost equal rivals fighting for the destiny of man. And that the
kingdom of God is in a constant battle with the kingdom of darkness.
We have to understand
that satan and God are not equal in power. Neither are they near equal in
power. Actually, there is no comparison between them. God is the creator, satan
is a created being. They can’t be on the same level.
satan was an angel. An
angel who fell. Even the position he once held, he no longer has. Any glory,
power or authority that he had he lost. He is a failure.
He is a defeated enemy. A
defanged snake. The only power he has is deception. The only thing he can do is
deceive us. And his biggest lie has been to tell us that he is powerful and
wise and very strategic.
But from his actions we
can see that he is not wise at all. He is actually really foolish. Imagine,
Lucifer had spent possibly thousands of years with God. He knew God and His
eternal power. Yet he attempted to overthrow His kingdom. That is not a wise
move is it?
How about the fact that
for thousands of years he had seen everything that God had spoken and
prophesied come to pass and happen exactly as God had said it would. And yet he
still energized and influenced the Pharisees and Romans to kill Jesus. A thing
that God through the prophets had said would lead to the salvation of mankind
and the ultimate destruction of satan himself. That wasn’t very wise was it?
How about the fact that
he stirred up the persecution of the early church in Jerusalem. A move that led
to the early believers dispersing into the whole world and taking the gospel
with them to other nations. Hitherto, the gospel of Jesus Christ was only known
in Israel, when the believers were dispersed, the gospel was preached
everywhere. satan therefore ended up helping the spreading of the gospel to all
the world.
16 " By the abundance of your trading You became
filled with violence within, And you sinned; Therefore I cast you as a profane
thing Out of the mountain of God; And I destroyed you, O covering cherub, From
the midst of the fiery stones.
17 " Your heart was lifted up because of your
beauty; You corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to
the ground, I laid you before kings, That they might gaze at you.
18 " You
defiled your sanctuaries By the multitude of your iniquities, By the iniquity
of your trading; Therefore I brought fire from your midst; It devoured you, And
I turned you to ashes upon the earth In the sight of all who saw you.
19 All who knew
you among the peoples are astonished at you; You have become a horror, And
shall be no more forever."
He is a being who is blinded
and sorely motivated by pride, fear, jealousy, greed and strife. His kingdom is
chaotic and in disarray and he has no capacity to create or maintain order. He
is panicking and afraid because he knows his time is short.
The devil is not the boss of hell.
Going together with the
false idea of the devil being almost equal with God is the false idea that he
is the lord of hell.
Many Christians have this
idea that the devil and his demons are the ones running hell. There are some
Christians who claim to have died and gone to hell and while there they were
tortured by demons and the devil was there to terrify them. All of this is
utter rubbish.
Some religious groups
have even gone as far as inventing the ridiculous idea that satan was the one
who tormented Jesus in hell after the crucifixion.
First of all satan isn’t
boss of anything. To be lord you have to own something. He owns nothing.
Secondly. And this may come as a shocker to most religious people, satan has
never been to hell and is doing his best to avoid it.
He knows that when he
eventually goes to hell, he will never come out. And he will not be the
tormentor in hell. Instead, he will be the one being tormented! And forever in
hell, he will suffer the consequences of his foolishness and pride in thinking
that a created being and servant like him could ever overthrow the Creator, God
Almighty.
Thank you for the enlightenment, this message is so liberating and empowering. I pray all Christians lay a hold this truths. I am blessed by your sharing. May God enlarge your audience.
