This naturally flows from
the previous falsehood. Because many of us believe that the devil is almost
equal with God and a rival, we believe that he is therefore superior to man.
However, this contradicts
several scriptures;
1Peter5
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the
devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the
same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
The devil can’t devour
everybody. Otherwise every single person would be totally destroyed, sick,
broke, dead etc. but he can’t. So he seeks who he may devour. Those that are
available.
Most of what we have
believed about the devil isn’t true. The devil is the father of lies and the
greatest lie he has sold us is that he is powerful
Most of what we believe
about the devil is religious myth that stands in opposition to the Cross of
Jesus. His death, burial, resurrection and glorification.
James 4:7
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will
flee from you.
1 John4
4 You are of God, little children, and have overcome them,
because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
He who is in us is
greater than he who is in the world. Who is He who is in us? Jesus. Who is he
who is in the world? satan. Who is greater? Jesus. And as He is so are we in
this world.
I John5
4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And
this is the victory that has overcome the world our faith.5 Who is he who
overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
We are born of God. We
overcome the world and he who is in the world.
‘We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but
he who has been born of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch
him.’ 1
John 5:18
I am born of God and the
evil one cannot touch me.
satan Has No Authority
When Jesus rose from the
dead, He triumphed over death and hell. He also took the keys of death and
hell. When He was commissioning His disciples in Matthew 28:18 He told them
that He now had all authority in heaven and on earth.
"All authority has been given to Me in heaven and
on earth.
All authority means all
authority. There is no authority that was left out. There is none that stayed
with satan. The devil has zero authority or power.
Ephesians 1
18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened;
that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the
glory of His inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the exceeding greatness
of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty
power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated
Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and
power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this
age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all things under His feet,
and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body,
the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
The power of God that
raised Jesus from the dead exalted Him far above all things, powers, dominion
and anything else that can be named.
And we are in Him. We are
in a joint position with Jesus far above all other principalities, power, and
might.
That’s actually the point
of Ephesians 1. Paul is praying for us to understand this and to see it in our
heart so that we can walk in it.
Colossians 3:1-3 gives
this direction: “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts
on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your
minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is
now hidden with Christ in God” (NIV).
Since we are raised up with Christ, our
old sinful man is dead. Since we are hid in Him that is where we focus our
hearts, minds, and thoughts. We must see ourselves from this heavenly perspective.
Because we are in Christ, we are above Satan. Satan is under our feet. He is
not above us. He has no authority over us.
Man is superior to satan
We have to see ourselves
in the same way that God sees us. we have to see man’s position in creation from
God’s perspective. Man is the only being that was created in the likeness and
image of God. Lucifer was not created in God’s image. None of the angels were.
Only man was.
Secondly, of all God’s
creation, only man is referred to as the children of God. We are the heirs of
God. When Jesus died and gave His life it was for man, not for angels, not for
Lucifer. Man is the only being that scripture says God loves. To the extent of
giving His only Son to die for us.
The Bible is full of
scripture emphasizing the fact that man is superior to all creation and
inferior only to God.
Psalms 82
1 God stands in the congregation of the mighty; He
judges among the gods. 2 How long will you judge unjustly, And show partiality
to the wicked? Selah 3 Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the
afflicted and needy. 4 Deliver the poor and needy; Free them from the hand of
the wicked. 5 They do not know, nor do they understand; They walk about in
darkness; All the foundations of the earth are unstable.
Who are these that make
up the congregation of the mighty? Who are these gods that God judges among?
Who are these whose job it is to defend the poor and the fatherless? And to do
justice to the needy? And to free the poor from the hand of the wicked? They
are people. Men and women. They were not doing their job. They were just
looking on. And God was rebuking them for not executing their role and
operating in their authority.
6 I said, "You are gods, And all of you are
children of the Most High.
It is God who said. We
are gods. And children of the Most High God. It isn’t blasphemous to say that I
am a god. It is humble. I am simply humbling myself and believing what God says
about me.
It is logical and
perfectly sensible that the children of God are gods. Dogs give birth to dogs.
Lions to lions. God to gods.
7 But you shall die like men, And fall like one of the
princes."
Indeed God doesn’t want
us his children to live or die like mere men. He wants us to live on a higher
plain. Like the gods that we are.
This same passage was
discussed by Jesus in the book of John;
John 10
27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they
follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish;
neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29 My Father, who has given
them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My
Father's hand. 30 I and My Father are one." 31 Then the Jews took up
stones again to stone Him. 32 Jesus answered them, "Many good works I have
shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?" 33
The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but
for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God."
The moment Jesus
identified God as His Father, the Jews wanted to stone Him. why? Because they
understood that He was identifying Himself as being of the same nature as
God.
Think about it. If God is
your Father, and everyone begets according to his nature, it means that you are
divine too. This is what Jesus was saying, and they understood it. He was
calling Himself God. This was blasphemous according to them.
34 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in
your law, 'I said, "You are gods" '?
Jesus answered them by
taking them to their own scriptures. The ones that they believed in the Old
Testament.
35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God
came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), 36 do you say of Him whom the Father
sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I
am the Son of God'?
And then assured them
that God’s Word is true and cannot be broken.
God says what He means and means what He says. His Word is true. And He
said we are gods. And all of us children of God Most High.
Here is another example;
Psalm 8
3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your
fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, 4 What is man that
You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?
The Psalmist is wondering
who man is to God? He observes how much God cares for and loves mankind and he
doesn’t understand it. So he asks Him. Who is man to you that you care for him
like this?
5 For You have made him a little lower than the
angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor.
The word for angels here
is the word Elohim. It is the name of the Trinity, the Godhead Father, Son and
Holy Spirit. The Psalmist was saying plainly that man is a little lower than
the trinity. It is possible that the translators of this verse couldn’t believe
what David was saying here. Or that they were hamstrung by their religious
beliefs hence translating Elohim as angels.
6 You have made him to
have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his
feet, 7 All sheep and oxen --- Even the beasts of the field, 8 The birds of the
air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas.
Man was given dominion
and authority over all creation. Man is superior to all creation. And that
includes Lucifer and all his demons. They also are created beings. Even though
they rebelled and fell.
This one too is discussed
in the New Testament by Paul.
Hebrews 2
6 But one in a certain place testified, saying, What
is man, that thou art mindful of him? or the son of man, that thou visitest
him? 7 Thou madest him a little lower than the angels.
We have seen that in Hebrew
the word angels is translated from the Hebrew word Elohim, which is used to
describe the Trinity. Man has been put a little lower than God the Father, Son
and Holy Spirit.
8 You have put all things in subjection under his
feet." For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that
is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him.
Now he discusses the fact
that everything was put under man and there is nothing that was not put under
our dominion. satan too was put under our dominion. We are superior to him.
satan has always been and will always be an inferior being to mankind.
Even if we took the false
idea that Lucifer was the worship leader in heaven (which he was not), or that
he covered the throne of God (which he did not), the Bible still says that man
was created just a little lower than Elohim. We were created in the likeness
and image of God. We are gods. God is our Father. We know God in a way that
Satan has never known Him. We are still superior to him and his demons,
principalities, powers etc. Our splendor is far greater than that of any of the
angels.
I know you’re probably
saying, ‘well man fell from his position’. My answer to you is ‘so did satan’.
What is good for the goose is good the
gander.
The idea that when man
fell he lost all his authority and dominion, while when satan fell, he gained
even more power and dominion is baffling and doesn’t make any sense.
Hebrews 1
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to
minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
Lucifer was an angel,
possibly an archangel. As an archangel, he would have been head over all the
servant angels for mankind. He would not rule over man; he would serve man.
Even at the height of glory, even if he had never fallen, all he would ever be
is a servant.
Both Satan and man fell,
yes. Man, though, has been redeemed. We have been made righteous. Our present
position with God is not beneath what Adam had; it is far superior to Adam. We
are the children of God. We are flesh of His flesh. Born of His bones. We are
royalty.
satan, on the other hand,
is and forevermore will be a fallen angel who was created to serve us. This
means that we are sons of God and he is a jobless servant. He was fired!
