Extended from the first
myth that Lucifer was a worship leader, another myth has been created. That
some music is satanic and other music is holy.
Some religious people
have even gone as far as claiming that certain ‘beats’ and genres of music are
demonic and that if you listen to such music demons will enter you or influence
you some way or the other.
Some have advised us to play songs backwards to
determine if it is of the devil while others have advised that we completely
abandon any form of music and just be quiet before God. All of this is utter
rubbish.
There is not even a single scripture on which all of these theories
are based. Remember we determined at the beginning that only the scripture
should be our source of truth.
The devil did not create
satanic music. The devil never created anything. He doesn’t have creative
capacity. He was just a servant.
Titus 1
15 says, “Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto
them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and
conscience is defiled.”
God created all things.
Including music. Music is good. It is men who pervert it. But nothing in and of
itself is evil. Just like sex. There’s nothing wrong with sex. God created sex
for marriage. People have perverted. Another example is money. Money is not
evil. It is what you use it for that is evil.
Most religious people
define what is evil or not evil based on their preference. If someone doesn’t
like fast music, they’ll claim fast music is not of God, it is demonic etc.
If they like slow music,
they’ll claim that slow music is anointed.
It is amazing that many
Christians especially religious people have zero tolerance or appreciation for individual
taste and personal preference. They think everyone should want what they want
and everyone should do things the way they do things and everyone should
conduct life the way they conduct their life.
God is not like this at
all. God is a God of diversity. He gives all of us free will to make our
personal choices and do what we want and like and enjoy our life.
It is the lyrics of a
song, the words, which make it good or bad. A fast song with uplifting lyrics
is in no way demonic. A slow song with terrible lyrics is not good.
There is
nothing wrong with the beats or the tunes that songs are set to. Fast heavy
music is not evil or demonic.
Going by this logic we
should throw most of the Psalms away. The Psalmist took prayers and songs that
he had written to God and set them to ‘secular’ songs or beats. For example
Psalm 84 says this “To the Chief
Musician; set to a Philistine lute, or [possibly] a particular Gittite tune. A
Psalm of the sons of Korah.” AMP
Did you see what the
Psalmist did there? If he was in our churches today we would throw him out
immediately.
He wrote a worship song
to God and put it to a tune (beat) that Philistines were singing in the bars.
This would be the same as me writing a wonderful worship song to God and then
finding a popular song or beat that is played in bars and clubs and removing
those words and inserting mine and then singing it as worship in church.
Imagine that!
Be free to worship God
the way you want to with the music you like and enjoy. If you don’t like fast
heavy music, just admit you don’t like it. Don’t try to make everyone else
dislike fast heavy music. Don’t try to make it a spiritual issue. It is your
personal taste and preference. Appreciate that other people have different
tastes and preferences. Also appreciate that you are not the standard for what
should be acceptable and what shouldn’t.
There are no special
demons for music. We do not see any in scripture. There is no such thing as a
luciferean spirit that possesses worship leaders and musicians. All of that is
religious rubbish.
Music is simply a
powerful tool that God created to have a deep and powerful effect on our souls.
It can affect us in a good way or in an evil way based on its source. And the
way you tell the source of music is not by listening to the beat but to the
words in it.
We see in 1Samuel16:23
that David played music to Saul to soothe his soul.
“And so it was, whenever the spirit from God was upon
Saul, that David would take a harp and play it with his hand. Then Saul would
become refreshed and well, and the distressing spirit would depart from him.”
