Matthew16
18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on
this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail
against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and
whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on
earth will be loosed in heaven."
We are now in Christ. We
are in the Rock. The gates of Hades shall not prevail against us. When we know
who we are in Christ and who Christ is in us, the defenses of the devil and his
kingdom cannot stand against our assault. Our power is so much greater than
theirs.
We have been given the
keys of the kingdom of heaven. Keys represent authority and access. We have the
keys of the kingdom of heaven. We have authority and access because we are in
Jesus.
We have authority to bind
(to forbid, to declare unlawful) whatever we don’t want. And when we use this
authority heaven backs us up.
We also have authority to
loose (to accept, to permit, to allow) whatever we want. And whatever we allow
in our lives and on earth is allowed by heaven.
Matthew10:1
And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He
gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds
of sickness and all kinds of disease.
Jesus when He was
training His disciples gave them power and commanded them to cast out devils
and to heal all kinds of sicknesses and all kinds of diseases. He didn’t tell
them to pray to God to heal them. He told them to heal them.
Luke 10
17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying,
"Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name." 18 And He
said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I
give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the
power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. 20 Nevertheless do
not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice
because your names are written in heaven."
Later Jesus called
seventy of His disciples and gave them the same instructions He had given the
twelve. To go and preach the gospel of the kingdom, heal the sick, cast out devils
and so forth.
When they returned to Him
they were so excited. That’s when He told them that He was giving them power
over the enemy and nothing could harm them. This is true of us who are in
Jesus. We have power over the enemy and nothing can bay any means harm us. We
need not be afraid of the devil because he is inferior to us. We have the power
of almighty God.
John 14
12 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes
in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will
do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will
do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My
name, I will do it.
We have the power and
authority that Jesus had. That is why we can do all the works that Jesus did
and even greater works than He did. All we are required to do is continue in
relationship with the Father and flow with the Holy Spirit like Jesus did.
Matthew 28:18
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All
authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make
disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I
have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the
age." Amen.
Jesus received from
Father all authority in heaven and on earth. And after He had received all of
this great authority and power from Father He sent us to go and do His work. To
disciple the nations, to bring them into kingdom living and crush the enemy.
This same commission is repeated in the book of Mark but in a slightly
different way.
Mark 16
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world,
and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs
will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will
speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink
anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the
sick, and they will recover."
After giving the
commission to preach the gospel in all the world Jesus also tells His disciples
that they will operate in authority and power.
He tells them that signs
will follow them. They will cast out devils, speak with new tongues, take up
snakes, drink deadly things and not be hurt, lay hands on the sick and they
will recover. This is true for all of us who have the Holy Spirit. These signs
follow us.
Luke 4
18 " The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because
He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the
brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the
blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD."
When Jesus was beginning
His public ministry He announced His arrival by declaring that the Holy Spirit
was upon Him and that He was anointed. The Holy Spirit anointed Him to preach
good news to the poor, to heal, to set free, to restore sight, to liberate etc.
Now this same Holy Spirit
is in us and has anointed us to do the same things that Jesus did. We now also
have power from heaven to live as Jesus lived and walk as Jesus walked.
Acts 1:8
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has
come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea
and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
We received power when
the Holy Spirit came upon us in baptism. Now God expects us to be His
witnesses. To proclaim the Kingdom and to demonstrate it with miracles, signs
and wonders. He expects us to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, open blind
eyes, open deaf ears, raise the dead and so forth.
Romans 8:17
15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again
to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out,
"Abba, Father." 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit
that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs --- heirs of God
and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be
glorified together.
We are now joint heir
with Jesus. We partake of His inheritance. We partake of His authority. We
partake of His power. We partake of His glory. We partake of His blessing.
Colossians1
12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to
be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light. 13 He has delivered
us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of
His love
We are qualified to
partake of Christ’s inheritance. God has qualified us. He has delivered us from
satan’s power and kingdom. We are now in the Kingdom of God.
We are not under the
devil’s power. Anyone that tells you that is lying. We have been delivered from
the devil’s power. We partake of Christ’s power and authority.
2Timothy1:7
For God has not given us
a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
God has given us a Spirit
of power. The Holy Spirit in us is the Spirit of Power.
