THE HOLY SPIRIT LIVES IN YOU

“And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever” John14:16

HE LIVES IN YOU.

Jesus promised us that the Holy Spirit would abide with us forever. That He would live inside us. He is in us and with us. He lives in us as a person would live in his house. We are His house. His body. Where He dwells. Before we go any further, we need to deal with the fact that the Holy Spirit is a person;

HE IS A PERSON

The Holy Spirit is a person and He is probably the most disrespected person on earth. Generally speaking most in the church today do not see the Holy Spirit as a person. We see Him as an influence, a power, a wind, a cloud, a feeling, a fire etc. but not as a person. In fact most Christians see and refer to the Holy Spirit as “it” rather than as a real person.

He is as much a person as the Father and the Son and as much as you are a person. He is not an influence, a wind or something mystical. He has all the attributes of a person;
·         He is referred to as a person in scripture.

The personal pronouns He, Him and Himself are used throughout the New Testament to refer to the Holy Spirit. see John14:16,17; John15:26,2

  • He has a mind.

Romans8:27 tells us that the Holy Spirit has a mind. “And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

  • He has a will.

1Corinthinas12:11 tells us that the Holy Spirit works His gifts in us as He wills. “But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”

  • He has emotions.

Ephesians4:30 tells us that the Holy Spirit can be grieved. “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
1Thessalonians5:19 tells us that He can be quenched. “Do not quench the Spirit.”
Hebrews10:29 tells us that He can be insulted. “…and insulted the Spirit of grace?”
  • We can fellowship and have communion with Him.

2Corinthians13:14 tells that we can commune with Him. “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.”

  • He has personal actions

The Holy Spirit does things like any other person. He has individual actions.
He works 1Corinthians12:11
He speaks and says things to us.Matthew10:20, 1Timothy4:1, Revelation2
He testifies. John15:26
He bears witness. 1John5:6
He prays and intercedes. Romans8:26
He leads us. Romans8:14
And so forth

In a nutshell, the Holy Spirit is a person who thinks, feels, talks, does things like all of us do. He is a person and He lives on the inside of us.
