3. Satan
The third source of tragedy and bad things is the devil. It is the devil comes to steal, kill and destroy. It is him walking around like a roaring lion seeking who he may devour. We should blame the devil for everything we can. We are not giving him enough bad press.
“Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?” Rom6:16
When we yield to sin, we yield to the devil and allow him to work death and destruction in our lives and nations. Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people. The devil works in our lives with our consent and cooperation.
We allow him to wreck our lives and to do all this evil stuff to us. This is through sin, murmuring, the words of our mouth etc. but if we resist him, he will not be successful.
The problem is most people don’t resist the devil. They just allow him to ruin them. If bad stuff happens it is either the devil or us or a combination of the two. The devil has enough people to work with to make your life miserable.
If you give satan an inch he will take a mile. Sin will cost you more than you want to pay, take you further than you want to go and keep you longer than you want to stay.
4. Natural causes
Romans8
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope, 21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
We live in a fallen world. Stuff happens. Sometimes bad things happen simply because of natural processes or because of failures in nature or machines or whatever. A machine can fail, a building can collapse because of poor quality materials or whatever. It can be an entirely natural process for which we cannot blame God, satan or even anybody in particular.
However the good news is we can receive protection from God even from these natural tragedies
Psalms 91:1-16
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, [He is] my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, [and] from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth [shall be thy] shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; [nor] for the arrow [that] flieth by day; [Nor] for the pestilence [that] walketh in darkness; [nor] for the destruction [that] wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; [but] it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, [which is] my refuge, [even] the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in [their] hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I [will be] with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.
