9. Love thinketh no evil
“it takes no account of evil” BBE
“imputeth not that which is base” EB
“takes no account of evil” WEB
“it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]” AMP
God keeps no record of the wrongs that we do to Him. He doesn’t keep score like most of us do. Nor does He think or plot evil for us.
“Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.” Prov10:12
“He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.” Prov17:9
“And above all things have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sins.” 1Pet4:8
It is a godly thing to forgive and move on and let things go. This is how God is. He doesn’t bring up past transgressions. What is in the past He leaves in the past.
“does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth”
10. Love rejoices not in iniquity
“It takes no pleasure in wrongdoing” BBE
“doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness” WEB
“It does not rejoice at injustice {and} unrighteousness” AMP
He doesn't gloat over other people's failures. He doesn’t enjoy iniquity. He doesn’t rejoice when people fail or fall into sin. He doesn't feel vindicated when we fail. God doesn’t have the ‘I told you so attitude.’
11. Love rejoices in the truth.
“but has joy in what is true” BBE
“but rejoiceth in sympathy with truth” EB
“but rejoices when right {and} truth prevail.” AMP
Always sides with the truth. He rejoices in honesty
“bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
12. Love bears all things
“Love bears up under anything {and} everything that comes” AMP
Puts up with whatever we throw at Him. He can bear anything. There is never a time when we are too much for Him. There is never a time when God says to us that enough is enough. God can bear whatever we throw at Him. When everybody has given up and forsaken you God is with you.
13. Love believes all things
“is ever ready to believe the best of every person” AMP
He is ever ready to believe the best of every person. He believes the best of us. He sees past our present condition. God sees potential. He isn’t fazed by our current condition. God always looks at the potential we have and works on how to get us from where we are to where we can be. God doesn’t despise anybody however lowly and insignificant they may be.
14. Love hopes all things
“its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances” AMP
He is the ultimate optimist. He doesn’t give up hope. Always hoping that things are going to turn out good isn’t a bad thing. It is a good thing. Hope is an anchor for our soul. Hope keeps us established and rooted in God. God never loses hope.
15. Love endures all things.
“and it endures everything [without weakening].” AMP
God carries on with us despite all the obstacles and hardships that come. And most of these obstacles and hardships are usually because of our ignorance or unbelief. He remains firm and doesn’t buckle. He waits patiently and will not yield and give up on us.
“Love never fails”
16. Love never fails.
“Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end” AMP
After all is said and done. Love still stays standing. Love never fails. When everything else in life fails. Love doesn’t. When we commit to a life of walking in love, we will always win no matter what happens. God doesn’t fail. He stays faithful, He stays true and He stays able.
This doesn’t mean that when we walk in love we will always get what we want or that we will always succeed. However it means that even when we don’t get what we need we still know that God didn’t fail us or give up on us. We know that we did the right thing. We know that in the end we gained something of much more value. Love never fails.
CONCLUSION
Romans13
8 Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
Loving others is a debt. It is not optional. We are commanded to love one another. James2:8 calls it the royal law of God
“If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well”
This is what the Law of Moses was all about. If a person walked in love perfectly they would fulfill all of the Law without even trying.
The law was an accurate and perfect description of what God created man to be. The law portrayed what a person who was walking in God's kind of love would do.
We still can't keep the law perfectly in our flesh but the New Testament believer can now fulfill the spirit of the Old Testament law as an Old Testament man never could. All we have to do is depend on God’s grace and walk in the spirit as He leads us to walk in love.
The summary of all this is in verse 10. Love works no ill towards your neighbor. And who is your neighbor? Whoever is in need of your love.
Love does not bring harm to others. It does not cause physical, emotional or other harm to other people. It doesn’t work ill. And God is love. This is how He relates to us. He doesn’t harm us or hurt us. He is love.
