“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” 1Jn4:8
More than anything else God is love. Of all the descriptions of God, love is the most accurate.
God is atom for atom, molecule for molecule, nerve for nerve, muscle for muscle all together love.
Love is who He is. Love is His nature. Love is His character. He doesn't kind of, sort of love you. He really does.
God is love, and we were created in His likeness and in His image. Our quality of life will depend on the quality of our relationship with God and our relationships with people. God designed us to find true fulfillment in love relationships.
Our quality of life is the quality of our relationships. We were created to be a loving being. Love is the root of our emotional and spiritual being. We all want to feel valued, we want to be precious to someone, and we want to be special. We want the emotions and actions that make us feel loved. When we love, we have value, affection, honor, adoration, high esteem for someone or something.
God loves us. He values us. He is affectionate towards us, He adores us, He esteems us.
Ephesians 3
14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
It is when we are rooted and grounded in the love of God that we can start to comprehend God and understand His true nature. The starting place for comprehending, understanding and relating with God is love.
If God is hard for you to understand, it is because you have not understood His love. This isn't just a casual acquaintance with God's love. This is speaking of an intimate understanding and experience of the depths of God's love.
In the same way that a tree's roots provide stability and nourishment for the tree, so also our revelation and experience of God's love is the foundation on which everything else we receive from God is built.
God's love is multi-dimensional. There is width, length, depth and height to it. And the only way to comprehend it is by the revelation of the Holy Spirit. There are several dimensions to it. He is our Father, Husband, Mother, Brother, Friend, Master, Saviour etc. We have to come to the place where God fills every need for love in our lives. Whatever kind of love we need, God can provide for us. Whether it be the love of a parent, friend, spouse etc.
19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
Being grounded and rooted in God’s love leads us to the place where we experience the love of Christ in a way that surpasses natural knowledge. It takes us to the place of a heart experience that is more real than any intellectual knowledge or information could ever be. The more you understand the love of God in your heart (through meditation), the more you experience His love tangibly in your soul, emotionally.
The love of God insulates you from life's challenges. From death, poverty, heartbreak and anything else. These things don't really matter and will not shatter your life when you are experiencing the love of God.
Romans 8
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
God's love just insulates you from whatever life will throw at you.
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” 1Jn4:18
The love of God vaccinates us from fear. If fear is operating in your life you are not experiencing the love of God. How much fear do you have in your life, what are you afraid of? What areas of your life are ruled by fear? Finances, relationships, health, future etc. Experiencing God's love casts out all fear. When we live in a real loving relationship with God, we have something intangible but undeniable. We live in a realm of assuredness, peace, safety and surety that affects every other area of our life. We have an inner strength that is inexplicable.
“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.” 1Jn3:1
The love of God is the basis for our sonship with God. As we understand and experience more of God’s love, we understand and experience more of our inheritance as sons and heirs of God. It is because if His love for us that God ordained for us to be adopted as His sons and to come into His family. His love was His motivation.
Ephesians 1:3-11 MSG
3 How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He's the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him.
4 Long before he laid down earth's foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love, to be made whole and holy by his love.
5 Long, long ago he decided to adopt us into his family through Jesus Christ. (What pleasure he took in planning this!)
6 He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.
7 Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we're a free people--free of penalties and punishments chalked up by all our misdeeds. And not just barely free, either. [Abundantly] free!
8 He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need,
9 letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making. He set it all out before us in Christ,
10 a long-range plan in which everything would be brought together and summed up in him, everything in deepest heaven, everything on planet earth.
11 It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for. Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living
